Reviews of the Best Bassinets for Small Spaces

Take a look at our best bassinet for small space reviews and choose which one is the top option for you personally.

HALO BassiNest 3.0

  • Dimensions: 47″ x 47″ x 44.5”
  • Weight: 22.2 lbs
  • Swivel: 360 degrees
  • Walls: All mesh, Side wall lowers
  • Machine washable: Yes

The Halo Bassinest 3.0 is our pick for the best baby bassinet for small spaces thanks to its small size but durable build and the ability to pull it over the bed with the legs tucked underneath slightly.

This co-sleeper style, space saver bassinet is high quality and designed to make a new parent’s life easier. The basket rotates 360 degrees and is even fully removable so you can safely take baby with you around the house. The thing parents love the most about this small space bassinet is the ability to move the basket smoothly meaning you won’t disturb your sleeping baby.

All four walls of this small bedside bassinet are made from a breathable mesh, making it easy to see baby and giving excellent airflow. Even better, it means there is no need to worry if, like mine, your little one tends to sleep with their face pressed into the wall. The side wall also lowers so you have easy access to baby when you are lying in bed. The mattress pad and fitted sheets are included and both are machine washable.

This could be the best compact bassinet if you want baby as close as possible. It’s also the best small bassinet for all budget levels as there is a cheaper version, a mid-budget version with additional vibration and white sound then a luxury version with even more features.

What we love:

  • Fully meshed sides for great airflow and visibility
  • Can sit partially over the bed so baby is super close
  • Basket is removable so can be used as a safe place for baby to lay around the home

What we don’t love:

  • The base is very heavy but that does mean it is sturdy and won’t move or fall when accidentally bumped

Fisher-Price Soothing Motions Bassinet

  • Dimensions: 22.8” x 5.9” x 40”
  • Weight: 20lbs
  • Swivel: No

This space saving bassinet comes with a huge amount of added extras such as dual lighting modes, calming vibrations, white noise and music, and even an overhead mobile. There is also a small mesh storage area under the crib and the mattress pads and sheets are included.

The crib can generate gentle swaying motions by battery power to help rock baby to sleep or the baby’s movement can generate the motion manually. If you prefer the cot not to sway then movement can easily be locked off using the velcro straps.

If you’re looking for one of the best cots for small spaces that comes with additional features like rocking and sound, this option from Fisher Price is available for a great price.

What we love:

  • Motion can be battery-powered, generated by the baby’s movements, or locked off

What we don’t love:

  • The height of the bassinet can’t be adjusted like it can with other options we’ve reviewed here.

Types of Best Bassinets for Small Space Living

There are a couple of different options when looking for that perfect space for baby to sleep, make sure to consider both options carefully.

Baby bassinets are free-standing sleeping areas with four fixed walls and you can’t usually adjust them or move them around very much although some bassinets do come with wheels and there are a few “travel” versions. They are essentially a mini version of a full-sized baby cot.

Co-sleepers are just like bassinets except they are specifically designed to go right up against the adult bed, making it super easy to access baby during the night. This also makes them a really great option for anyone looking for a bassinet for small rooms as they require less floor space.

Many co-sleepers have one side wall that lowers to give easier access to the baby and are adjustable in height to suit a range of adult bed sizes.

Features of the Best Bassinet for Small Space Living

Depending on what is important to you and your living situation, there are a few different features you’ll need to consider when looking for the top bassinet for small space living.

Frame design & material

When you’re looking for a bassinet for limited floor space, the biggest factor to consider will be the frame design as that is what dictates the floor space needed. Legs that stick out at a very wide angle will mean the bassinet takes up more space. A frame that has legs that can be slid under the bed is an amazing option for smaller spaces as they’ll require a lot less clearance between the wall and the co-sleeper.

If portability and being able to move the bassinet around the house are important to you then don’t forget to check the weight too. A bassinet with an aluminum frame is usually both durable and lightweight.

All good quality bassinets and co-sleepers should at least have mesh panels in the walls but preferably the walls should be 100% soft touch mesh. This is really important to allow airflow and keep the baby cool, make sure parents can see baby at all times, and most importantly for safety. If your baby is anything like mine was, they will love pushing themselves right up against the walls of the cot and shoving their adorable little face into the wall. I have no idea why they seem to love doing it so much but mesh walls mean they won’t have any breathing difficulties, no matter where they end up in the bassinet.

Mattress & fitted sheets

Generally, all good baby bassinets will come with a mattress and fitted sheets as standard. Look for thicker mattresses that provide additional comfort to baby and it’s even better if they are waterproof and wipeable, making it easier to clean up after accidents.

When buying a smaller bassinet, there’s a chance that standard sheets won’t fit, so finding replacements could be difficult. As a result, it’s important to make sure the included sheets are of good quality and machine washable.

Additional features

There are so many great added features that you can get with a good quality bassinet. Some things to think about could be storage pockets (great for keeping essentials close), an adjustable canopy (perfect if the bassinet might be placed close to a window or outside), wheels for easy maneuverability, and some even come with mobiles or hanging toys.
